Catriona Matthew will soon be expecting to direct Europe into Solheim Cup success this week, six years from procuring their latest victory.
Matthew featured three winning sides using the Scot famously promising the stage that was critical to secure Europe’s win in 2013.
Europe maintained a two-point advantage after the opening afternoon and procured a clean sweep in the Saturday fourballs to take a 10.5-5.5 lead to the Sunday singles, in which Matthew faced Gerina Piller.
Anna Nordqvist halved the opening match of the afternoon, while wins Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda and Caroline Hedwall – who all feature in the 2019 side – took Liselotte Neumann’s team and guaranteed the prize would return to Europe.
Matthews then registered the moment that was winning holing a to maintain the half-point needed for Europe to retain the cup to the first time .
Europe would go to win the contest by a perimeter, claiming seven and a half of the points that are available on the afternoon to complete a success.
