Former world snooker champion Shaun Murphy has shown he was sidelined after suffering a leg injury when dance to Disney’s Greatest Hits.
However, the Englishman was determined to go back for the continuing Shanghai Experts – with prize money.
He directed 5-0 in his first round game before his Donald Duck broke to receive a frame back again.
After winning 6-1, Murphy said of his injury:“It’s not ideal preparation.“
Champion at the Crucible in 2005, murphy, “ said the eccentric accident occurred when he had been dancing around the living room on a Sunday afternoon with his three-year-old son Harry.
„I felt something go in my own leg. I thought for a moment I’d snapped my Achilles tendon, but also the doctor afterwards told me if I had done that I’d have gone down like a sack of spuds,“ that the 37-year-old informed World Snooker.
„He said I could well have partly ripped it and he advised me to break it as much as you can, therefore I sat in the house for a couple of months, doing my spouse’s mind in.
„I had to pull from the Paul Hunter Classic and I was relieved to have the ability to contact the table for a few days. It is not perfect preparation but I’m glad to be here and for a win under my belt.“
Because he got his season up and running with a 6-0 whitewash of amateur Zhang Yi world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan didn’t hang around.
O’Sullivan, who won the Shanghai name in 2017 and 2018, played to amateur James Cahill at the World Championship for the very first time since his shock opening loss.
‚The Rocket‘ pocketed #200,000 for his Shanghai triumph this past year, once the tournament adopted 24-player format which saw it become the most rewarding invitation occasion in snooker.
And he immediately shot to the top of the fastest average shot occasions, at 15.89 seconds – per week later it was revealed snooker was becoming faster.
„I have been in the peak of the match for 26 years. For the previous nine or 10 years I have been the player every season along with other players. In the past it was [Judd] Trump. Other years it’s been [John] Higgins and [Mark] Williams,“ he said.
„My longevity was fairly excellent. I would not say I am the best in all sections, but I am efficient in most. There are a lot of tournaments around for grabs this year, but in addition a lot of players that are excellent. It needs to be an exciting year.“
