Wales have been covering balls to prepare for humidity at the Rugby World Cup in Japan.
The technique is among a number attempted as Wales on Monday, 23 September in Tokyo City.
„We’ve been using wet chunks and been using baby oil onto them as well,“ said coach Warren Gatland.
„We have taped them up too, and we have already been through that process in the [training] camps we had.“
Gatland says trainings in Turkey and Switzerland were intended to help his players cope with the requirements in Japan.
„We’ve been to two camps where one was at elevation and it was quite sexy in Switzerland, and then it was that the late 30s at Turkey,“ he said.
„We’ve done as much as we possibly can in terms of handling the warmth.
„I think that the humidity is going to be a variable. With the kick-offs that are later those temperatures are going to fall to approximately 20 levels, although It is possible to observe it is.
„It’s going to be a lot cooler, but the challenge then will be the humidity and dealing with a slick ball. It is the way we deal with that.
„The players who have been to New Zealand will have experienced this. I come from Hamilton, it’s incredibly humid there.
„We know what it is like and we have players that have undergone a great deal of nighttime rollercoaster, so we feel we have prepared well. We are looking ahead .“
After facing Georgia, Wales and Fiji, Australia and Uruguay play with with as they struggle for the quarter-finals at the final campaign of Gatland in charge.
