Last year was a year that the Tampa Bay Lightning would like to overlook. Its likely to be a year which everyone else will remember. After torching the competition in the regular season from the season with a record of 62-16-4, the Lightning were swept in the first-round by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It was among the set of events in the NHL. They dropped Game 1, which was a surprise enough, and then lost three games all in a row, against the Blue Jackets. While the Dragon thought that the series was going to be handed to them the Jackets wanted it more.
The Lightning got ripped by fans following the lackluster effort. Tampa should not have experienced any business losing in the first-round, while the Jackets werent a team that was lousy. Anything short of a Stanley Cup will be a pity, but the Lightning couldnt even finish the first step of winning a match at the first-round.
Their triumph over the Lightning will always be recalled, although the Bruins bounced columbus. With that isnt going to impress the fanbase. They are counting down the days to the opening puck drop in the playoffs. Tampa cant do much more in the regular season than the usual record of 62-16-4.
The Capitals had to avoid the Presidents Trophy so maybe the Lightning will be better served trying to not curse themselves using the best record in the league. Their pursuit redemption will begin on Thursday against the Florida Panthers. Joel Quenneville will make his coaching debut as the Panthers tonights bench boss. Head below to our free Panthers vs. Lightning pick.
Joel Quenneville was relived of his duties as head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks just 15 games into this past season. The Blackhawks had perspective and a face behind the seat, so they chose to go in a different direction. That does not take away anything which Quenneville was able to achieve in his ten years at Chicago. Without a leader, the Blackhawks have been a ship In the time of his hire from 2008-09. The exact same may have been said for the Panthers.
After he neglected to visit the playoffs last season, quenneville is replacing Bob Boughner. There was some talent to the Panthers, but mattersnt gelled as head coach using Boughner. Quenneville provides various experience for this group. Along with the head coach employ, the Panthers invested a great deal of cash to deliver Sergei Bobrovsky to Sunrise. Bobrovsky will get cold and hot, but he is a major upgrade over the Roberto Luongo.
Bobrovsky submitted a 2.46 GAA and also 0.919 save percentage in his final season with the Blue Jackets. He will look to assist a Panthers team that enabled 3.33 goals per match for 28th at the NHL. Bobrovsky is not likely to profit from playing with the Blue Jacket defence, but the Panthers are likely to get a lift in net out of him.
The line should be helped by the addition of Anton Stralman, and Brett Connolly will provide depth up front . On trying to get they to be joined by Artemi Panarin, the Panthers whiffed. He signed with the Rangers rather than the Panthers, that renders the Panthers. Panarin could have put them.
The Panthers will have to handle a Lightning team that finished 1st in the league having a whopping 3.89 goals scored per match. They were solid defensively too, allowing 2.7 goals a week for 7th. The heart of this team is intact, including goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy whos the defending winner of the Vezina Trophy. Note that Brayden Point may overlook this competition .
After an epic choke job every year, expect the Lightning to come out difficult and fast to place in the past. There are currently going to be areas in which the Panthers are a pick, but not tonight in Tampa. Though that is probably in the year its a pricy selection. Ride the Lightning on Thursday night.
