New Orleans Saints‘ Drew Brees says operation on his thumb harm was a total success and is expected to miss six weeks.
The Saints are starting a stretch of matches to Seattle on Sunday with no quarterback Brees using the visit as the Seahawks seem to continue their very best start since their Super Bowl championship season.
Saints coach Sean Payton has yet to officially name a rookie, although teddy Bridgewater is anticipated to start for New Orleans.
Brees‘ injury – a ligament in his throwing thumb, last week lasted in a 27-9 reduction at the Los Angeles Rams – begs the obvious question of whether the Saints are developed to resist the absence of the NFL’s all time top passer.
„We’re getting ready to learn,“ Saints manager Payton said if asked that question.
Bridgewater completed 17 of 30 passes for 165 yards after replacement Brees.
The Saints hope that he can recapture the form he had in Minnesota when he made a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 before a knee injury he was set by the next preseason back again.
„We have 53 people on our staff. Drew is a huge part of this,“ New Orleans defensive end Cameron Jordan said.
„You can’t replace Drew, but in precisely the exact identical time we do not know precisely what Teddy brings to the table. It has been [over] two decades since he has had a complete Pro Bowl year he had over in Minnesota.
„At this stage, I can’t tell you whether we could withstand without Drew.“
Whether Bridgewater would begin, rather indicating that Taysom Hill is also in the mixture, payton wouldn’t confirm.
Hill plays an assortment of places on offense and special teams and has recently replaced Brees on event at quarterback when Payton belongs with a option.
Brees‘ absence was not.
Their line was defeated and the team rushed for only 57 yards on 20 carries. New Orleans were penalised 11 times for 87 yards.
The Seahawks wish to cut down on their penalties. They’ve been penalised 18 occasions, including 10 for 93 against the Pittsburgh Steelers a week.
Should they continue to perform close games, having conquered the Cincinnati Bengals by a single point from the opener and predominant in Pittsburgh by 2, the rash of fines could prove expensive.
„Our hands’ve got to get cleaner,“ coach Pete Carroll said. „That’s simply being littered with their palms, and we have to perform better. We are not there yet, we’re not on it.
„Our conscience is not right about it, and I hope that this hit tough enough this week. I am hoping the lessons are strong enough that we may make an impression.
„We have got to get it done. We’re a excellent team that is third-down.
„Everything beyond that, we stink, and that’s going to continue to be hard and people happen because of sacks or due to penalties and we’re becoming third and fifteens and stuff. We have to clean that up.“
The Seahawks don’t have any quarterback worries as Russell Wilson led them to their first 2-0 start since their championship season in 2013.
Wilson used his legs and his arm at Pittsburgh a 28-26 victory last Sunday, a week after Seattle started home with a one-point triumph from Cincinnati.
He completed 29 of 35 passes. In addition, he spanned three times to help keep living a drive that consumed the of the game.
„It is hard to imagine that somebody can keep getting better when you are in year eight,“ Carroll told SeattlePI.com. „How can that happen? Nonetheless, it is. We’re watching it.“
