Mick McCarthy insists starting Aaron Connolly in the Republic of Ireland Qualifier at Switzerland on Tuesday would not be a Danger.
Even the Brighton striker scored two before the break in their 3-0 win over Tottenham and won his first cap off the bench as he came on on Saturday.
But requested at his pre-match press conference in the Stade de Geneva in case it would be a bet to start against the Swiss, McCarthy explained:Well, that is the question, isnt it?
Asking me could I hazard him, there is some suggestion that there is. I really dont believe there is.
He has now made his debut. He had a cameo and did well in it and I think he will be feeling familiar with himself, so no, I dont think it will be a danger at all to start him.
McCarthy did acknowledge, however, that he would not utilize the adolescent as a lone striker, the role Lutons James Collins happened on in Tbilisi.
I wouldnt want him to be isolated up there, thats for certain, added McCarthy.
They play with three in the rear and I think placing Aaron into this, if I chose to do it, placing him up on his own could be a big ask I think on his first full launch.
McCarthy was asked on numerous occasions concerning his team selection that was potential when one journalist claimed that Connolly would begin in Geneva along with exception was taken by McCarthy.
If you are able to deduce that from my tone of voice along with the way I look, then fair play to you, said McCarthy.
I could just drop him you today.
As for Switzerland, McCarthy believes that they were the best team against Denmark in the weekend, regardless of the side claiming a triumph in Copenhagen.
I watched the game the other night and Switzerland were so fantastic. They had been the best staff, he concluded.
[Kasper] Schmeichel produced three world wide saves to keep them from the game.
Denmark had a goalkeeper who created three world class saves. Denmark needed a participant who chose a pass, who is capable of picking thats the reason why Real Madrid have been after him, and this pass – [Christian] Eriksen.
How he saw it is outside me, and how he implemented it is beyond me, though thats because I am not really as gifted as him, and the end was great from [Yussuf] Poulsen, who is a very good player.
That happens in games but Switzerland were far and away the best team.
