England Women’s head coach Phil Neville claims the transition to midfield of Lucy Bronze is part of a program for the Lionesses.
After the Lionesses failed to impress Thursday’s friendly neville’s decision to set up the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year out of position in the 3-3 draw against Belgium Women of England was questioned.
But the England Women head coach is insistent that tactical decision was a part of a plan, together with the Bronze herself looking into the idea.
„The thing is she is [fulfilled ] and wants to perform with there,“ Neville explained.
„She’s bought into the design of the tiny time of giving a platform to have some consistency in that position.
„it is an entirely different mindset however I think that if we’re looking at a two-year plan we must be brave in certain situations and certain places that we are seeking to strengthen and become much better in.
„When you haven’t obtained Jill Scott, Fran Kirby or even Jordan Nobb, we have to seek out players of that quality, expertise and physical ability that will require us to the next level.
„Lucy will go back to back. There’s this fixation with me enjoying with with her at midfield. Pep Guardiola did it with Phillipp Lahm, played him at right-back when he had been one of the greatest players on the planet in one.
„The following season I proceeded to watch Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach and he had been in central midfield – that had been the best player on the pitch.
„You have got to have a vision for somebody and you know everything? Lucy has the exact identical vision for me. She is liked by the staff in there. There’ll be instances when she’s sometimes she will soon be in right-back and in there.
„Ultimately. We are currently trying to make the group. We’re trying to get Lucy to influence the group over she already has at right-back.“
„I liked the game we played against USA and I played midfield then,“ Bronze said.
„This was a challenge playing against the best group in the world at a position I haven’t played since I was 16, I absolutely enjoyed it.
„I played against Canada too but I didn’t enjoy it so much. I was tired and it’s hard to perform my own position in a top rated international match let alone a different place.
„I had been in midfield the other day and I truly enjoyed it. It’s funny because I’m playing with just two of the younger women from the group today and I am sort of getting bossed around by them. They are telling me that I am doing stuff wrong.
„It is enjoyable for me, I enjoy being pushed. I am playing with a smile although I am comfortable at full-back and uneasy. I’m learning new things. Maybe it will help me if I return to full-back, it is a struggle.“
The Lionesses and Norway Women at a game in Bergen play on Tuesday.
