If plans to alter club competitions go ahead player welfare will be in danger, states the human body representing leagues throughout the continent.
Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli Would like to alter the format of their Champions League and spoke about the problem in a leaders conference on Tuesday.
However, president of European Leagues, Lars-Christer Olsson, cited fixture and is contrary to the movement.
It is becoming more clear we must care for the gamers, Olsson said.
If theyre playing 70 or even 80 games a calendar year, theres a high probability of them getting injured.
Olssons business – European Professional Football Leagues Association , also known as European Leagues – states it is the voice of football leagues around Europe on all matters of shared interest.
He desires plans to modify the Champions League arrangement.
Its been suggested the competition could be changed from its – eight groups of four to six groups of six. Such a move would raise the amount of group-stage suits for every group.
Olsson considers the one method of handling additional matches would be to get clubs to enlarge their squads to 40 players but believes this would dilute the rivalry as a complete and, in any case, would benefit the wealthier clubs, something hes vehemently opposed to.
Agnelli has been canvassing opinion from the nightclubs to get a change in the model that is European of Europe.
The Italian is yet to reach any consensus and utilized his speech, in the Leaders Sport Business Summit in Twickenham, to inform the leagues that they had to stop sayingno, no, no into a revision of their current system.
Agnelli asserts that change must occur if football is to continue being intriguing to a generation he believes will be drawn away by pc games such as League and Fortnite of Legends.
However, Olsson said:Its a contradiction to state the clubs are battling the leagues. All the clubs have been in leagues and among the leagues there is not any issue.
Olsson says that the leagues are contrary to the present idea of incorporating promotion and relegation to European rivals, presuming it would turn them toa closed shop.
It is totally non-negotiable, he said.
If you win a single tier, it makes sense you should get the chance to play at the next level and should you win the Champions League, you should be in a position to defend it, but these three groups are the only ones who should be given the chance to play at European club football the following season .
The remainder must be down to recent success on the pitch in a domestic league. Clubs shouldnt have an advantage because of what theyve done in the past.
Neither do I believe the big leagues – England, Spain, Italy and Germany – should have four groups that go into the group stages as it restricts the chances for teams from other nations.
It should be one and three to the qualifying round. If the fourth group is great enough, theyll get through but someone else should have a possibility of doing it as well.
Agnelli has set a deadline of fall 2022 to think of a platform, which could be used as the basis for negotiations over the television deals scheduled to operate out of 2024.
He cited the expansion of the game of the women as a reason why a solution has to be found which will create greater revenue for ranking European teams specifically.
The rise of the womens match has brought a breath of fresh air to the business, he explained.
Clubs are now realising that the womens sport is significant and may be an additional source of possible consumers and lovers.
However, it is difficult to ask a club by a moderate or small-sized league to invest #2m – which is exactly what you need from the beginning when you think about logistics, transportation, hotels and wages – from a general budget of 20m. It is the equal of a third division mens team.
