Belinda Bencic continued her fabulous shape later seeing off Donna Vekic in straight sets on Wednesday, to achieve the US Open semi-finals.
Bencic had already knocked out world No 1 and defending winner Naomi Osaka at the last round, and she made it through to her maiden Grand Slam semi-final with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 victory over the Croatian.
She fired eight aces and won 84 percent of points on her serve to wrap up the competition against her near friend
And frequent hitting partner in 40 minutes and one hour.
„I believe we’re professional enough to be friends outside the court but do our work on the courtroom and keep focused. I’m sure off the court we are still friends,“ said Bencic.
„I actually like the challenge. Some players are scared of the courts that are big but it is motivation. I am quite enjoying my tennis“
The seed, who has yet to lose a set in the tournament, will take to the winner of the game involving Canada’s Bianca Andreescu and Elise Mertens of Belgium .
Bencic also becomes the first woman to have this far at Flushing Meadows.
Vekic bankrupt for 5-4 and functioned for the opening set but was not able to shut it all out.
She saved a set point at 5-6 and at the tie-break, but a forehand gave the top hand to Bencic.
Before landing an former Eastbourne winner, bencic, had a piece of fortune serving at if a backhand flew broad but cut on the internet cable.
Vekic saved two break points but Bencic frees up the pressure and broke her next service game to love until reeling off the final three games and turning her third match point.
