Andy Murray has used his ranking of world No two to input Great Britain into the ATP Cup in 2020.
Murray had to use his ranking to get Great Britain in January to the team competition in Sydney – in which every tie has two sisters and a rubber – as 32nd-ranked Kyle Edmund wasn’t high enough to adapt.
Speaking on Thursday, the Scot said:“If I use my secure (position ), I will behave as the number one player. If you’re currently playing in a competition like that, I think, the player ought to be chosen to perform with.
„The Australian Open would be the priority for me personally. And I really don’t need to go there and not play with any games. Thus, I am finding that very a difficult choice to make.“
The Scot is only in the infancy of his comeback against the hip performance that rescued his career, enjoying just 3 singles tournaments, but he will come back to the ATP Tour in a fortnight, with recently dropped down to Challenger level for the very first time in 14 years, after he heads to China.
He’ll play with three championships in China – at Zhuhai, Beijing and Shanghai – .
The 32-year-old, that has dropped from the world rankings making him that the No 13 to 415, is hopeful of being chosen for the November 18-24 Finals in Madrid in Britain’s Davis Cup team.
„I’m very proficient team competitions in tennis, I simply don’t like the week that it (the ATP Cup) is now still at all. Have done. I don’t like that there is two team competitions six months apart . It simply doesn’t make sense,“ he added.
