Jurgen Klopp believes Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been”refreshed” following a philosophical rest during the global break.
Both Mane and Salah, about the rear of a long Liverpool year which didn’t finish till their Champions League final victory on June 1, had a summer taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations, for both Egypt and Senegal respectively.
Mane went all the way to the final, meaning he only reported back to training with Liverpool five times before the start of the new year.
Neither have suffered from a dip in shape, together with the set scoring seven league goals between them already, but using neither Egypt nor Senegal in action in the latest round of global fittings, Salah and Mane remained in Liverpool, with Klopp giving them the rest he believes they deserved.
“It was perfect for the boys who didn’t have to go,” Klopp said. “I am happy for them to go and play with their national group, it’s a big honour.
“But I have said it 500 times, if you see the boys who didn’t have to go this moment, for different reasons, then that which is different.
“To get five or even six days away, they always train, however they do not need to worry here and play with proper football sessions.
“We could have coached since there were five players here, but Sadio and Mo would not have the time off they had.
“We now have another week with two games, which is not simple, but we can’t alter this.
“They are refreshed, that is the way it is, and we can use that.”
There was a further increase from the pre-match press conference before Saturday’s game with Newcastle of Klopp, together with Klopp revealing goalkeeper Alisson’s situation has improved, but there remains no hurry to bring the Brazilian back into the fold.
“Alisson is improving but we can not put any pressure on him,” Klopp additional. “This was a serious injury from the calf but now it’s far better. It’s very good for people, good for him. We do not know [the return ].
“The target was always following the upcoming global break he could be ready but we do not understand. Hopefully this will be OK for the remainder of the season.”
