By Aaron Hickey’s remarkable screen to the Hibernian fans calling for Paul Heckingbottom’s departure, here would be the biggest talking points in the Edinburgh derby…
Aaron Hickey shines in derby debut
What a means for your 17-year-old to mark his Edinburgh derby debut. Since it took a deflection off of the outstretched leg of Josh Vela there was still an element of fortune about his Hearts purpose , but the youngster was good value because of his winner. He defended was keen to get and provide an outlet out wide, refused to hide when his crew went and awakened to the nature of the second half in his 12th look to the Tynecastle side.
Newspaper reports suggest Manchester City have been monitoring his advancement – would he add to Scotland’s growing record of left-backs that are impressive? He has every chance according to this showing.
Heckingbottom faces questions
Hibs have won in the league since April 6 – per triumph over Hearts at Tynecastle – that is surprising given how well Paul Heckingbottom’s reign in Leith began. Hibs went 10 games without even losing to finish in the top six after his appointment in February.
Since the side of Heckingbottom slumped to 11th in the Premiership table, But , there were angry protests outside Easter Road following the match on Sunday.
The derby almost felt as a make-or-break fixture for counterpart Craig Levein and Heckingbottom given how poorly both sides had begun the season. Levein has earned some temporary respite however can Hibernian stand with their man?
Hibs were weak in the first half here, going long into on occasions, yielding achievement, and they neglected to benefit from their momentum after Stevie Mallan opener after the period. The nature of the defeat, in front of their fans, leaves Heckingbottom confronting questions on his future.
Levein and derby test passe
Last week, lovers protested outside Tynecastle against Levein in their numbers but the Hearts boss played a blinder.
Starting in the back with three certainly stunted the home side, together with Christophe Berra and Craig Halkett mopping up long balls on the top, but Levein was quick to act after his aspect did move behind. Andy Irving and Callum Morrison were introduced as Hearts became even aggressive going through the power of Uche Ikpeazu and Ryotaro Meshino’s trickery and pushed further up the pitch.
The match turned after the opener straight into an end-to-end slugfest with this aggression, since they took the match by the scruff of the neck using Hearts finally enjoying a sustained period of pressure. Hibs, who have now shipped 15 goals in six matches, could not endure for this.
Where was Scott Allan?
Scott Allan, A looked just like Hibs‘ biggest threat when the hosts jumped from the trunk, going ahead but these minutes were shown to be more meticulous than the home fans would have enjoyed.
There is an argument among the Easter Road faithful that Heckingbottom is just not receiving the most out of both Allan and it could be stated that was here. Fans reacted angrily after the Hibs boss substituted Allan in a draw together with his negative conceding a late equaliser, with St Johnstone.
Allan wasn’t always awful against Hearts, he looked unsafe, if he was still on the ball, he was not at the game enough to be the influence he obviously can be and that is a problem Hibs need to solve going forward.
Hibs‘ recruitment problems?
As he looked to place his own stamp on the Hibs squad paul Heckingbottom brought in 10 new players over the summer however, the majority have endured begins in Leith to their professions.
Christian Doidge was on the seat at Easter Road on Sunday and has begun only two league matches up to now, despite arriving from Forest Green on the summer for a fee. Free transfers from England Joe Newell, Adam Jackson and Tom James were substitutes while fellow summertime recruits Josh Vela and Melker Hallberg neglected to earn a genuine impact.
Chris Maxwell was a surprise addition in goal for his first Premiership start, Jason Naismith left his derby introduction whilst Heckingbottom might have introduced Rangers loanee Glenn Middleton earlier given his screen in the closing stages.
Ahead of the game Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd questioned those summer signings.
„The recruiting over the summer was very, very disappointing. That is where I feel a good deal of Hibs fans are requesting Paul Heckingbottom’s question. They have got to be better than what is already there and that has not been the case when you see the starting line-up 33,, when you attract players into the soccer club.
„The vast majority of those signings are in the bench and particularly once you spend the money that you spend on a striker [Doidge] who cannot make the beginning line-up again, which is unsatisfactory from the Hibs point of view when they’re spending money.“
A springboard for Hearts?
Defeat at Easter Road would have been devastating for Hearts and possibly for Levein’s tenure as manager contributed not only their bad start to the season but also their unsatisfactory ending to the previous campaign, using a Scottish Cup final look hiding annoying type in the league.
Victory over Hibernian moved Hearts off the bottom of the league, up to and they have an opportunity to book a League Cup semi-final place at Hampden if they could beat Aberdeen in Tynecastle on Wednesday before they have the opportunity to follow that up with a different positive result in St Mirren next weekend.
After the game Levein acknowledged that he and Hearts had a very long way but they also have an opportunity. Benefits within the following week can put a spin on their beginning to the season.
